Who sings that song? - How to find and legally download music

With so many emerging artists flooding the radio waves with new music daily, our heads regularly become full of bits and pieces of various songs we here and like. But while we know all the hooks, how many of those new songs can you name the recording artist let alone the album and song titles? This article will teach you how to find and legally download all the digital music your MP3 player can handle.

The first step is taking a snippet of that chorus that's been repeating in your head and putting it into your favorite search engine. One thing to keep in mind is that most search engines ignore common words such as "where" and "how", as well as certain single letters and digits. If the part of the song you remember is made up mostly of common words, you can take it a step further and place quotation marks around the search phrase and get back only the most relevant results. Placing "+" signs between common words is another tactic that can be used. Once the search is executed, the results will most likely be from music lyric sites. Within the first few results you should be able to identify both the song title and artist.

Now that you have the artist names and actual song titles it is time to download those songs, legally. While there are many music download sites on the internet, I recommend going with one of the major four providers: Rhapsody, Napster, Yahoo Music Unlimited, or iTunes. The first three are Music Subscription Services that offer you the ability to rent their entire collection of over 1 million tracks for a low monthly fee. If you want to completely fill up that 60 gigabyte MP3 player, this is the most affordable option. However, if you prefer to purchase each song individually, all four providers offer the ability to buy individual tracks. To learn the differences between the various subscription services, see my guide on Choosing a Music Subscription Service (http://www.hooklookup.com/choosingmss.aspx).

Its that easy! You no longer have to ask "Who sings that song?" nor pay for an entire album when you only want one song. Happy listening!
